The Cathedral
The Basílica de la Asunción is the largest cathedral in Central America and a World Heritage site since 2011. It took more than a century to build and inside is the tomb of Rubén Darío, the national poet.
When roof access is open, it is the best view of the city and the volcanic chain. You walt barefoot on the white lime roof: do it early, because at midday the floor genuinely burns.
Museums and art
The Ortiz Gurdián Foundation holds the city's most important art collection, spread across restored colonial houses. The museum devoted to Rubén Darío is in the house where he lived, and the Revolution Museum tells the recent history from the very buildings where it happened.
The rhythm of the day
León is one of the hottest cities in Nicaragua. You can walk comfortablely from seven to eleven a.m. and from four to seven p.m.; in between, the city goes indoors and so do we. For the midday hours, your room and its balcony or the pool area are the best place to relax.
Where to stay for this plan
Poolside room
Your can easily walk the whole centre from the hotel entrance. Room 12 is the only room with a balcony over the pool, for when you come back from the heat.
For the trip itself, at reception we put you in touch with trusted local tour operators. The hotel no longer offers its own tours.
